One-Week Sailing Itinerary in the Ionian Greek Islands

One-Week Sailing Itinerary in the Ionian Greek Islands

Are you dreaming of a sailing adventure between Italy and Greece? A one-week sailing itinerary through the Ionian Greek Islands, departing from Santa Maria di Leuca, offers the perfect mix of open-sea navigation, crystal-clear waters, picturesque villages, and authentic Mediterranean culture.

This sailing route connects the southern tip of Salento with some of the most beautiful islands of the Ionian Sea, including Othonoi, Erikoussa, and Corfu. It’s an experience that combines exploration, relaxation, and the unique feeling of traveling powered by the wind.

Saturday – Boarding in Santa Maria di Leuca

The journey begins on Saturday afternoon with boarding in Santa Maria di Leuca, located at the southernmost point of Puglia.

After settling into the cabins, guests meet the skipper and receive a short briefing about the boat, safety procedures, and the itinerary for the week. The evening is usually spent relaxing on board or enjoying dinner in one of the seaside restaurants along Leuca’s charming harbor.

Sunday – Sailing from Leuca to Othonoi

(about 50 nautical miles)

Early in the morning, the adventure truly begins with an open-sea crossing towards Othonoi, the westernmost island of Greece.

After several hours of sailing across the Ionian Sea, the island appears on the horizon with its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear water. Othonoi is still relatively untouched by mass tourism, offering peaceful bays and stunning natural scenery.

Here, guests can enjoy the first swim in Greek waters, often in beautiful spots like Aspri Ammos Beach or the famous Calypso Cave.

Monday – Othonoi to Kassiopi (Corfu)

(about 15 nautical miles)

After a relaxed morning with swimming and breakfast on board, the boat sails toward Kassiopi, a charming fishing village on the northeastern coast of Corfu.

Kassiopi is known for its small harbor, traditional tavernas, and lively atmosphere. The evening is perfect for exploring the village, tasting local Greek dishes, and enjoying the vibrant Mediterranean nightlife.

Tuesday – Kassiopi to Corfu Town

(about 15 nautical miles)

The journey continues south toward Corfu Town, the historic capital of the island and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This beautiful town reflects centuries of Venetian influence, with elegant buildings, narrow streets, and historic squares. Highlights include:

  • the impressive Old Fortress

  • the Palace of St. Michael and St. George

  • the charming streets of the old town

It’s a day dedicated to culture, history, and discovering one of the most fascinating cities in the Ionian Sea.

Wednesday – Corfu Town to Erikoussa

(about 20 nautical miles)

Leaving the lively atmosphere of Corfu behind, the sailing itinerary continues toward Erikoussa, one of the small Diapontian Islands.

Erikoussa is a quiet and charming island surrounded by turquoise water and golden sandy beaches. Here, time slows down, and the day can be spent swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of island life.

Thursday – Erikoussa to Santa Maria di Leuca

(about 50 nautical miles)

The return crossing begins as the boat sails back toward Italy. This open-sea navigation is often one of the most rewarding moments of the week, offering the true feeling of long-distance sailing.

Arrival in Santa Maria di Leuca usually takes place in the evening, just in time for a final aperitif on board under the stars.

Friday – A Relaxing Day in Leuca

After an intense week of sailing, Friday is a relaxed day to enjoy Leuca’s coastline.

Guests can take a walk along the waterfront, visit the lighthouse and the sanctuary overlooking the sea, or simply relax with one last swim in the clear waters of Salento.

Saturday – Disembarkation

After breakfast on board, it’s time to say goodbye to the boat and the crew.

Disembarkation takes place in the morning, marking the end of a week filled with sailing, breathtaking landscapes, new friendships, and unforgettable memories between Italy and Greece.
